Marcos A. Napa
Biography

Marcos Augusto Napa Orme�o, was born in Lima, Per�, with 22 years of his life as a professional artist, dedicated to the Afro-Peruvian music and dance. Since his childhood, he grew as a dancer in the Ballet Per� Negrito; years later, in 1983, he made his debut as a professional percussionist in Ballet Per� Negro.

Marcos has traveled all over Per� with Per� Negro, in addition, he has participated in international festivals as Festival Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico. As a percusionist and first caj�n player, visited a number of the America's countries such as: Martinique, Panama and Chile.

After a brilliant career with Ballet Per� Negro, Marcos proceeded to become nothing less than a member of the group of musicians that accompanied the Peruvian leading singer Eva Ayll�n with whom he participated in many concerts at national and international level in the USA, Canada and Japan. In the other hand, between 1993 and 1997, he took part in 3 recording and video-taping productions called: "Gracias a la Vida", "Para Tenerte" and "25 a�os 25 �xitos".

By excellence, Marcos Napa is a traditional musician and due to this, he was requested in many occasions to participate in concerts and recording productions, among others, with Peruvian artists such as: Juan Castro Nally, Cecilia Bracamonte, Lucila Campos, Mariela Valencia and Mar�a del Carmen Dongo.

As a dancer, in the year 1995, he found in Per� the "Ebano Academy" for children and adults; 3 years later, he travel to the United States of America with an only dream; to continue spreading out the rich Afro-Peruvian heritage. That is why, in the city of Miami, he joined the ballet "As� es mi Per�" as an instructor of Afro-Peruvian dances; later, travel to New Jersey and in 2003 open once more his Ebano Academy in Paterson. Established in the State of New Jersey, he has carried out various and important workshops in towns of the States of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey; the last one of those was in the "Out of Doors" program organized by Lincoln Center on 28 August 2005.

It is important to bring out that Marcos once more was dressed with his native colors to come up on stage with the ballet who saw him born, "Per� Negro" in the presentations that took place the 27 and 28 July 2005 in the Queens Theater of New York.

Marcos Napa does not rest and right now is teaching Afro Peruvian Dance at "Pachamama Peruvian Arts", organized by the Center for Traditional Music and Dance of New York. At the same time, Marcos is a member of the Organizing Committee and Instructor of Afro-Peruvian dances.
